Canadian Blood Services: expects that over the coming weeks more blood will be shipped to hospitals than current donor appointments will provide. This, in turn, will put a strain on reserves. Between now and September 11 Canadian BloodServices needs to collect 137,200 units of blood to meet hospital demand nationally. However, Canadian Blood Services is already 10,000 donation appointments short of where we should be and that gap could increase as the summer progresses.
