Minister of International Trade to Address Business Community at Global Leadership Forum

As one of North America’s fastest growing metropolitan regions — and given its importance in the national economy — the Innovation Corridor which stretches from the Greater Toronto Region -through Guelph - to the Waterloo Region, and surrounding communities have the tools to create an economic supercluster that is a magnet for international trade, global expansion, and foreign direct investment. The focus of the Global Leadership Forum will be how companies and institutions can leverage our strengths to Build a Winning Trade Strategy.  We will explore what globally minded companies can do to significantly expand trade — in both goods and services — around the world.

“Guelph is a model of sector expertise and innovation, which can be applied to create more opportunities for growth and prosperity on a global scale,” says Minister Chan, Ontario Minister of International Trade. “I look forward to further collaboration with the Guelph Chamber of Commerce as we continue to build up export across Ontario.”

“It is both timely and important that we host this vital conversation on trade and export. The Global Leadership Forum will address how to seize the potential of increased trade and how to overcome the barriers either real or perceived,” says Kithio Mwanzia, President & CEO, Guelph Chamber of Commerce

A key focus point of Guelph’s capacity to go global will be the Port of Hamilton. The Port of Hamilton is the largest port in Ontario, contributing to $6 billion in economic activity and 38,000 jobs in Ontario. The port supports the export capacity of fast growing local industries such as, clean tech, manufacturing and agri-food.

“We are looking forward to the keynote by Ian Hamilton, President & CEO of the Port of Hamilton, one of Canada’s largest ports as well as an expert panel with leaders in international trade and export,” concludes Mwanzia.

The Global Leadership Forum takes place on May 19 from 11:30am until 2pm at Cutten Fields. For more information on this event, click here.
