Have your say on the Municipal Budget 2023 | Jan 17, 2023
It’s evident that the last few years have been challenging for everyone. With inflation and the rising cost of living, the affordability crisis is a key concern of the Guelph Chamber’s. These pressures are and will continue to challenge business productivity and growth in our community.
Last week, the City of Guelph released the 2023 budget update with a proposed tax levy of 4.96%. Although lower than the originally anticipated levy of 5.17%, this will still be the largest tax increase that taxpayers have seen in 15 years.
Mayor Cam Guthrie is proposing an additional levy of between 1-2% (on top of the proposed 4.96%) to recover revenue losses and expenses incurred due to legislation and under-funding from the provincial government. This additional 1-2% would include the already existing hospital levy, and support for mental health, homelessness, and addictions, as well as respond to Bill 23 and 109. To hear directly from Mayor Guthrie about this proposal, check out his video.
If you have feedback about the released budget, and/or the Mayor’s recommendation, please send us an email with your comments to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than noon on Monday January 23, 2023. The Guelph Chamber will be delegating to Council on January 25th.
