Response to 2026 Federal Budget
Nov 6, 2026
The Guelph Chamber of Commerce welcomes the federal government's focus on business investment, productivity, trade diversification and economic growth in the 2026 Federal Budget. At a time of continued economic uncertainty, measures that encourage businesses to invest, innovate and expand in Canada are important steps toward strengthening our national and local economies.
We are encouraged by initiatives intended to reduce the cost of business investment, support innovation and help Canadian companies scale. For Guelph's business community, including our manufacturing, agri-food, technology and small business sectors, access to capital, new markets and productivity-enhancing technologies will be critical to sustaining growth and competitiveness.
However, the success of this budget will ultimately depend on implementation. Businesses need clear program requirements, predictable timelines, reduced administrative complexity and meaningful access to the supports intended to help them grow. We also encourage the federal government to ensure that small and medium-sized businesses can benefit from these measures, not only Canada's largest corporations.
We also recognize the connection between economic prosperity and strong, sustainable communities. Investments in housing, supportive services and essential infrastructure can help address barriers to workforce participation, attract talent and create the conditions for businesses to thrive. These commitments must translate into tangible results for communities like Guelph.
As the federal government moves forward, the Guelph Chamber encourages continued collaboration with local businesses and Chambers across Canada to ensure federal policies reflect the realities facing employers on the ground. We will continue to advocate for policies that strengthen competitiveness, support investment and make it easier for Guelph businesses to grow, invest, and thrive.
A stronger Canadian economy starts with businesses that can compete, communities that can attract talent, and a policy environment that rewards investment and growth.
The Guelph Chamber also supports and echoes the Ontario Chamber of Commerce's response to the 2026 federal budget. To view their response, please click here.
